Special Olympic Volleyball (Traditional and Unified)

Come train for volleyball with coaches Melissa Carey and Joel Faretra on Monday nights from 7-8pm at the Chenery Middle School. Weekly practice will focus on skill development and teams will be formed according to abilities.

Dates: March 22, 29, April 5, 12, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 31, June 7, 14

Special Olympic Golf

Come play some golf at the Stone Meadow Golf Club in Lexington on Sunday mornings from 8-9am. You must have your own clubs and golf balls. Athletes and partners who qualify for competition will play at Oakley Country Club on Tuesday evenings during the summer.  Coaches: Doris Leblanc and Joe Divico

Sundays: May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, Aug.1, 8

Tuesdays: June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27, August 3, 10

 

 

 

Special Olympic Unified Softball

Weekly practices include drills and scrimmages. Athletes will be divided into teams based on skill assessments. Assessments will be made at the first practice on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 10am at the Winn Brook School field in Belmont.

Ages: 12 and older Sunday mornings from 10-11am at the Winn Brook School and Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm at the Hittinger Street Field.

Sundays: May 16, 23, 30, June 6, 13, 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8

Tuesdays: June 22, 29, July 6, 13, 20, 28, August 3, 10

 

 

Recreation Swim

Come swim some laps and play some games at the Higginbottom Pool at the Belmont High School. This activity will take place on Monday nights from 5:45-6:45pm for five weeks. Ages: 12 and older

Dates: July 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9

 

Sailing

Come sail at the Courageous Sailing Center in Charlestown with Coach Gerry Finlay.

Ages: 16 and older on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm

Dates: May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28,

August 4, 11, 18, 25, 2010

 

 

 

Bocce (Traditional and Unified)

Just like bowling on the grass, this program is open to athletes who are new to the sport or more experienced athletes who have been playing this game for awhile. Takes place at Payson Park on Monday nights from 7-8pm for athletes 12 and older.

Dates: June 21, 28, July 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9

Special Olympic Cycling

This activity takes place at Belmont High School on Monday nights from 6-7pm. Ages 8 and older Coach: Rick Murray

Special Olympic Swimming

At the Belmont High School Pool on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm for athletes 8 and older. This program is for swimmers who will compete in the June Special Olympics. Athletes must be able to swim the length of the pool.

Mondays: March 22, 29, April 5, 12, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, June 7, 14

Wednesdays: March 24, 31, April 7, 14, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 9, 16

Tennis

For athletes ages 12 and older. This program is played on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm at the Hittinger Courts in Belmont. Weekly practice will focus on skill development and teams will be formed according to abilities. Coach: Paul Oppedisano

Special Olympic Track

All interested athletes should meet the coaches at the Belmont High School Field House (first night only) every other night meet at the outdoor track at Belmont High School ages 8 and older 6:30-7:30pm Coach: Kristin Daley

Power Lifting and Weight Training

This is for athletes who intend to train for competition at the summer games.  For Ages 16 and older on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm at the Weight Room at Belmont High School. Coach: Brian Manke

Friday Night Socials (Wednesdays in the summer)

This program takes place on Friday or Wednesday evenings from 7-9:00pm for ages 13 and older.  The time may vary with the program.

Fridays: March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 9, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18

Wednesdays: June 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18

 

 

Walk for Fitness and Fun

Join us for a six week program at the Belmont High School Clay Pit Pond for a community walk. Particpants need only bring good shoes and a desire to have a healthy walk or run. We will start with 1 mile and hopefully work up to more at the end of the season. No registration or cost for this program, participants can just come when they are available. Interested participants should meet at the Hittinger Tennis Courts.

TUESDAYS: April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15 6:30-7:30pm

 

 

R.A.D. Self Defense

Learn how to protect yourself at home and in the community. Participants will learn what is appropriate touching vs. inappropriate. There will be some whole group instruction, and sometimes separate male and female instruction. There will be two separate sessions- and participants will be assigned to a session once we know how many people are interested.  Chenery Middle School 6:00-8:00pm

Session One: March 29, 31, April 5, 7 (Monday and Wednesday nights)

Session Two: April 27, 29, May 4, 6 (Tuesday and Thursday nights)
